*Welcome to edibo – but in Romanian. Whether foreman Luc actually spoke those words when Mihai and Alexandra arrived at edibo, we don’t know. What we do know is that the couple was given every opportunity to flourish, in Luc’s team.
Luc Plumot: “As far as I’m aware, Mihai and Alexandra are the only couple working together at edibo (laughs). I remember them trying to find their way here in the beginning, which is quite normal when you don’t fully speak the language. So, we decided to take things into our own hands. I suggested taking them under my wing so they could get used to life on an edibo site – with a little help from the company as well. We started looking for a home nearby so they could get acquainted quickly. And they successfully started off on the right foot.”
Mihai Alexa: “Both Alexandra and myself are technically apt, with an affinity for the construction industry. We were very happy when we got the chance to start working at edibo. This is also not the first time we have worked together, so we are used to that (laughs).”
Alexandra-Maria Alexa: “I am mainly a technician and I interpret the plans while Mihai and Luc take on the daily management and quality monitoring of the team. Mihai’s brothers also joined us two years ago, which makes it a true family event when we’re on site.”
Luc Plumot: “That’s true, some time ago, Dutu and Marian also came to join our team. Our team on-site is now almost entirely Romanian. I would be lying if I said that the language barrier wasn’t challenging at first, but I noticed their great potential right away. Now, almost four years later, it is proven that my instincts were correct. When I head out to my other site team, Mihai effortlessly takes over, which is quite the achievement in such a short time and being a foreign language speaker.”
“The team runs smoothly as ever and everybody adapted magnificently to the edibo values. The company itself also supports our foreign co-workers to the best of its abilities: from training sessions in their own language to creating and promoting a respectful environment.”
Alexandra-Maria Alexa: “We felt instantly welcomed by our co-workers despite the fact we didn’t even speak English at that point. We were given the time and patience to navigate our way here, something we are still very grateful for.”
Mihai Alexa: “I feel very motivated to get as much out of my job at edibo as I can. The fact that we were granted access to all the training sessions and courses in our own language, shows how much they are willing to invest in us. That feels really good.”
We can definitely call this a successful marriage. Just like Mihai and Alexandra-Maria’s own marriage, who said ‘I do’ to each other a little after arriving at edibo. There was one guest who absolutely had to be at the wedding celebration.
Luc Plumot: “I was truly honoured to receive an invitation to Mihai and Alexandra’s wedding. I didn’t hesitate for one second to jump on that plane and head to Romania. As I did for Dutu’s wedding, by the way. It proves how close ties can be built with someone in a very short time; even among co-workers, across language and culture barriers.”
