Solid foundations for the future

“As Sustainability Coordinator, it is my goal to structurally cement sustainability within the edibo buildings, processes and projects, while contributing to a broad distribution of our story and our goals; toward both our building partners and our co-workers”, Yves Palmers emphasises.

“The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) in Europe recently mandated also plays a part in this objective but there’s plenty of good to build on already. For example, the large role we played in multiple BREEAM projects, and the launch of many initiatives in light of the VOKA Charter for Sustainable Entrepreneurship. This has allowed us to achieve an impressive series of Sustainable Development Goals.”

Central point of contact on and off site

Yves will, among other things, monitor and redirect our sustainability initiatives when needed: “It’s in our DNA to constantly push boundaries and take on daring challenges. Our bar in the field of sustainability has been raised to that same height from now on.”

“That means that our co-workers should always be able to come to me with questions and ideas; on and off site. For instance, when the Calculator wants to gain more insight into the financial impact of certain sustainability measures on a project, or the Project Manager who wants to discuss a number of BREEAM implementations at the site meeting.”

“Let’s not forget the subcontractors and other external building partners; they too need to understand how sustainability affects any specific project. Those are all situations we will be able to handle more accurately in the future.”

Heading towards an edibo sustainability identity

“The main goal is to create a unique identity for edibo in the field of sustainability. Besides the pursuit of concrete objectives, it is equally important for us to get as many constructive challengers involved in our sustainability story as possible.”

“This starts with creating shared success stories. A beautiful example is the state-of-the-art concrete solutions we apply in our projects today to drastically reduce carbon emissions. There’s so much more we can do, though; we are looking into fascinating ways to deploy residual heat from adjacent companies into our own buildings, or to cut back diesel use on our sites and during transport.”

“To really create a long-term impact, however, it won’t be an either/or story. It is my duty to get everyone’s noses pointing in the same direction. Challenge accepted (laughs).”

From sustainable project to sustainable cooperation

At edibo, when we say ‘sustainability’, we use it as an umbrella term. So, not only when it comes to the materials we use, the project processes or carbon neutrality – also in the field of the partnerships we engage in. For more than 40 years, we have been endorsing cooperations that overarch one-off projects, and that grow into genuine trusting bonds.
